Introducing the Artist Series

August 21, 2024 · Pax Labs

The Artist Series is an ongoing collaboration with renowned international artists tasked with designing device engravings based on different feelings and experiences.

For this installation, we challenged optical artists DOT (Daniel Shoykhet) and Gio (Giorgi Macharashvili) to create pieces inspired by relaxation — something most people use their PAX devices for — launching just in time for National Relaxation Day.

This limited edition collection features three specially-engraved PAX Plus devices — Flow, Expand, and Vibe. Each mesmerizing piece is designed to help you immerse yourself, find your inner peace, and achieve a relaxed state of being.

About the artists

DOT (Daniel Shoykhet) is an American-born, self-taught artist raised in New York and Chicago. His work, rooted in abstract expressionism and the optical art movement of the 20th century. It utilizes repeating geometric patterns enhanced by diverse color theories to create hallucinatory visual fields that challenge the viewer’s perception.

Gio (Giorgi Macharashvili) is a communication designer from Georgia, who brings a rich blend of cultural influences from his experiences across Europe and Mexico. In his Design Studio TONA, he and his partner draw inspiration from culture, art, history, and the world around them.

About the artwork

Expand

"The inspiration behind this design was actually a painting I did earlier this year. I wanted to achieve a spherical illusion using only straight lines, specifically parallelograms. I'm fascinated by visual illusions because they momentarily peel back a layer of reality.”

Vibe & Flow

“This artwork is inspired by the formation of smoke — paying homage to the earliest cannabis cultures of the Far Eastern world. Given the uncertainty surrounding the exact origins of these cultures, the abstract representation of smoke evokes the transient and elusive nature of these rituals. The graphical depiction of swirling, or asymmetrical lines and kaleidoscopic spirals, underscores the constant transformation of cultural identities.”
